Planticist is a plant identification, troubleshooting, and educational tool built by Technicole. This Privacy Policy explains what information Planticist collects, why it is collected, and how it is handled when you use Planticist.
Information You Provide
You can use many Planticist features without creating an account.
If you create an account, Planticist may collect information including:
- Your email address and authentication information
- Plants you choose to save to your account
- Plant nicknames or other information you enter
- Your responses during plant identification and troubleshooting sessions
- Saved identification or troubleshooting results
- Information you voluntarily provide through feedback or support requests
Authentication is provided through Supabase. Planticist does not receive or store your password in readable form.
Anonymous Use and Local Storage
Planticist allows certain features to be used without an account.
Information from an anonymous troubleshooting or identification session may temporarily be stored in your browser using local storage. For example, if you choose to save a result and then create or sign into an account, Planticist may use locally stored session information to associate that result with your account.
Local storage may remain on your device until it is cleared by Planticist, by you, or through your browser settings.
Usage and Analytics Information
Planticist uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used and improve the product.
Analytics information may include information such as:
- Pages and features used
- General interaction and navigation activity
- Device and browser information
- Approximate geographic information
- Referral or traffic-source information
- Technical information associated with website requests
Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies as part of providing its analytics services.
How Information Is Used
Information collected through Planticist may be used to:
- Provide plant identification and troubleshooting features
- Maintain user accounts and saved plants
- Save and display previous sessions
- Improve Planticist's diagnostic and identification systems
- Understand how people use the product
- Identify bugs, dead ends, confusing questions, and areas where Planticist's plant coverage should improve
- Maintain the security and reliability of the service
- Respond to support or feedback requests
Planticist may analyze aggregated or de-identified usage patterns to improve its plant knowledge, question design, and reasoning system.
Service Providers
Planticist relies on third-party services to operate the product. These currently include:
- Supabase for authentication and database services
- Vercel for application hosting and delivery
- Google Analytics for website analytics
These providers may process information as necessary to provide their respective services and operate under their own privacy terms.
Data Sharing and Sale
Planticist does not sell your personal information.
Information may be shared with service providers when necessary to operate Planticist, comply with applicable law, protect the service or its users, or complete a business transaction involving the service.
Data Security
Reasonable technical measures are used to protect information stored through Planticist. User-owned database records are protected through access controls designed to prevent users from accessing other users' saved plant and session information.
No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention and Account Deletion
Account and saved plant information may be retained while your account remains active or as reasonably necessary to operate the service.
You may request deletion of your Planticist account and associated personal information by contacting Technicole.
Certain information may be retained when reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, or other legitimate operational purposes. Aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer reasonably identify you may also be retained.
Children's Privacy
Planticist is not specifically directed to children under 13, and Technicole does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided personal information through Planticist, please contact Technicole so the information can be reviewed and, where appropriate, deleted.
Changes to This Policy
Planticist is currently in beta and will continue to evolve. This Privacy Policy may be updated as features, data practices, or service providers change.
The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
