Scientific synonym Epiphyllum anguliger is still in common horticultural use. The flattened, deeply lobed stems are normal growth and should not be interpreted as true leaves. Large fragrant flowers may appear on mature plants but aren't required for identification - the zig-zag stem shape is the primary evidence.
